Landing Page Usability: More Than Just The Curiosity Factor
A landing page is the page that visitors first see after becoming curious enough to click on a link to your site. The link may be found on search engine results pages, within a specifically-targeted email, on the site's navigation toolbar or within another website. In many cases, these are links you pay for. The organic results delivered by SERPs are free, but, unless your site appears on the first two pages, it's unlikely that visitors will connect.

Back to PR AGAIN!!!
I know the subject has been flogged to death and everyone has their 'slightly different' ideas about the value and influence of PR on SERPs, but I have a new quandry and possibly perspective to look at. I have two sites (of many - not the two in my Sig) that inexplicably had their PRs wiped in the last update (as near as I can figure). That, in itself is upsetting and also a mystery, having never seen it happen.
Site / server monitoring
What are people using to monitor their sites? Just curious, I have a script on a different box to our main site. This just performs a simple headers test, if we don't get a 200 response back I get a text message to my mobile telling me it's down; then we log the result in a flatfile so the script can check it was up or down last and only text me when the status has changed.
Running mostly ads on your website
We have registered the domain and done some very preliminary design work but we probably won't have a great deal of time in the foreseeable future to do the work necessary to have it really functional. My questions are: does it make sense to set it up as one of those mostly ad sites you see where the pages are mostly generated with sponsored ads? If so, is there an easy way to do this?
Graphic Design Contest
The wait is over, we will now begin the contest! Rules are listed below. First things first, what everyone has been waiting for...THE TOPIC! The topic for this contest is: A New Site Reference Logo. Keep in mind this is just for fun. Entries will be voted on by anyone who wishes to vote. Anyone is welcome to post their entries here. To be fair, I have created place for everyone to upload their images should they not have somewhere to do so.
Reciprocal links, link pages and new theories?
I have just been reading on Jim Boykin's Blog about linking and the new theories. I am new to his blog, hadn't heard of him before, but I was referred there and read quite a lot. Basically, as I understand it, he and others he confers with think reciprocal linking is dead, and only links within content on other sites are useful, and only if sites are relevant and well thought of. So I'd like to hear some other opinions.
HTML to PHP =/= SSI to PHP Incl??
I finally think it's time to change my entire paranormal site over to php from the current html filenames. If I wait any longer it will just be a lot more work in the end. By using the .htaccess file and having the SE's treat all html pages as php will that affect all of my includes? It will take a few steady hours of a headache to switch all my includes to php but I don't mind. I'm just trying to find out beforehand if this is necessary or if there's an easier way around it.
